About the project

Solar and storage on one approved site.

Geranium Plains Energy Park pairs a 250 MW / 343 MWp solar farm with a 150 MW / 300 MWh battery on a single site near Robertstown, giving 2 hours of storage.

Development approval has been secured, with grid connection activities currently progressing. The site also offers potential opportunities for future expansion of both solar generation and battery storage capacity, subject to further technical assessments, project requirements, and relevant regulatory approvals.

How it works

Sunshine you can use after sunset

Solar farms produce the most in the middle of the day, when demand is lowest. A battery beside the panels moves that energy into the evening, when homes and businesses need it most.

  1. Step 1

    Generate by day

The solar farm’s 343 MWp of panels turn South Australian sunshine into electricity for the grid.

  2. Step 2

    Store the surplus

Around midday, when solar output is high, the 150 MW battery on the same site charges instead of letting that energy go unused.

  3. Step 3

    Supply after dark

In the evening peak and after sunset it returns that energy to the grid: 300 MWh, or 2 hours at full power.

Progress

Grid connection under way

Four steps bring the project online. Land and development approval are complete, and the grid connection is now in progress.

  1. Land secured

    Complete

The site is made up of three land parcels: two secured under options to lease and one under an option to purchase.

  2. Development approval

    Complete

    Development approval is in place.

  3. Grid connection

    In progress

The grid connection process is under way.

  4. Construction

    Upcoming

    Construction follows the grid connection.
